Okay folks, I've some general, yet technical questions that need smart answers.

1) What's the difference between a preamp and an amp? Why would you ever need both?

2) What up with tubes? How do they work, and why are they different than any other amplification substrate?

3) What distinguishes a heaphone specific amp from an independent source amp used to power stand-alone speakers?
