I recently uploaded John Denver's Greatest Hits from my CD to my Surfans F28 Hi-Fi DAP. However when I play it, it shows 44.1 kHz instead of higher, shouldn't it be at 128 instead? Thanks.

No, 44.1kHz is a standard sampling rate, same as CD. I think you're probably thinking of bitrate, expressed in kilobits per second (kbps), where 128 kbps would be a possible bitrate for MP3s (though low quality, if you're ripping your own CDs to MP3 I'd suggest 320 kbps rather than 128).
