How do you guys go about it? In my experience when inputting a volume controlled device (iPhone) into a separately controlled device (ie car stereo) the volume of the former is very important. Are any portable amps able to receive a "digital" signal (possibly the incorrect terminology) that is volume-indifferent and simply control it from the amp? I know Fiio has a line-out connector from the 30-pin dock, but I believe it's an analog signal? My main audio is an iPhone 4s.
Before getting an Apple TV, I connected my device to an aux cable and it was a pain controlling both the device and receiver volumes. The beauty of the Apple TV is the iDevice just sends a signal and all the control is done by the stereo. I intend to purchase a sub-$150 amp in the near future.
