Hi all,
I have a Sennheiser CX6 which I absolutely love. I mainly listen to instrumentals (and classical for that matter), with occasional pop. But now I am looking for a replacement earphone with microphone & volume control for use with my iphone (getting tired of searching for volume buttons in my pocket!).
I have narrowed down to the following candidates (but open to other suggestions):
* Sennheiser Momentum In Ear
* Shure SE215
* Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay 3
Here are my thoughts:
* Sennheiser Momentum In Ear.
Wow. This sounds very very similar to my CX6 (which might not be surprising). I can clearly hear the pedals of the piano in the music. I love this earphone. However, I have read some reviews that complain the cable breakdown after several months of use. Some other people says that the mic & volume control breaks down after a few months..
* Shure SE 215.
I have heard a lot of good things about it. So I went to the local store to try it out. I am quite disappointed. I am not sure what happens there, but comparing to momentum in ear, the bass on this earphone is very weak! Maybe I didnt put the earphone correctly in my ear? Maybe the unit hasnt burn in completely? The cable also doesnt have controller, so I will have to buy an "upgrade cable". Which brings me to the 2nd point: from reviews, Shure cable replacement (with mic) are notoriously bad. So I will have to go with Logitech UE900. Will it affect the sound quality? I dont know...
* Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay 3.
Very similar to Sennheiser CX6 & Momentum In Ear in terms of sound quality. I am quite pleased with it. But... I hate the fact that the connector is straight (compared to the 90 degree connector in both Sennheiser). Not sure if that makes sense... its like having a toothpick sticking out from your phone (when you put it in your pocket). I have also heard quite a bit complain about the cable build quality...
So based on my review above... it comes down to Sennheiser / Shure. I like the fact that with Shure you can replace the cable (maybe the OEM cable will breakdown after a while?). But again, quite disappointed with the bass.
Regards,
Alex
