Hi everyone!

The HD-25 is one of my all time favourites, mainly due to the fact I've had mine for most of my adult life and I've become so adjusted to it's particularly "thick" sound that most other headphones sound a bit off. I haven't tried that many though. I have used them in the studio, performing live, casual listening, gaming, everything really, so the sound is very much burnt to my brain as a reference.

I would like something with a similar sound signature, but open back so I can hear the lady of the house speaking, and also to hear my violin when I play with a violin mute in the night over a backing track (with a mute instrument is almost whisper quiet).

Can be on the ear or over the ear and generally I don't find most any headphones uncomfortable so I am flexible there.

I realise there will be compromises in the lowest bass frequencies, but is there anything in the 300€ range? I am mostly looking at Sennheiser because I've done all sorts of funny adventures across the globe with them during my musiciany years, so I have a soft spot. Oh man, the memories. Will entertain the idea of other brands though.

Thank you!

The Sennheiser HD600 I think would be the best to match the profile of your current ones. For a lower price the Thieadio Ghost is really good, and fit is the same size and clamp. The Drop Sennheiser HE6XX has a little less nuetral tuning, but are fun and good value for a nice used pair and even have money left for a JDS Atom amp or Magni Heresy is great for them.

Custom Cans UK did an openback hd25. IiRC they just removed the plastic housing cover, dampening kit, and velour pads.

They have video on their channel.

Heh, thank you for your replies. What happened is that the Sennheiser 560S was on sale at the local big store for a hundred euros and change, so I ordered it with the store's lovely one hour delivery and am now listening pretty happily. I immediately applied a modest bass shelf boost but other than that I can see myself getting used to this sound and the bass is OK with the EQ.

I've actually never owned open back headphones so the soundstage thing feels quite nice. Everything seems to sound about right. Classical is nice, for sure. REALLY nice, actually.

I am using a humble Jcally JM20 Max which goes loud enough (I am at -48dB from max gain).
