Hi,

I was thinking of buying another pair of headphones for my ipod nano. I currently have ER6i but I find that for commuting they can be a little unconfortable.

I have seen this new Sennheiser and I wonder if anyone here has tried them. Are they good??

Thanks

I haven't heard the Sennheisers yet, but I agree that the form factor of the Sennheiser, Creative and Sony canal phones can be more comfortable for everyday use than the Etymotics (they have soft silicone tips). However, the canal phones won't isolate as well as the in-ear monitors (IEMs) such as the Etymotics, Shures, etc. (And I have found that, for me, the Etymotics are more comfortable with the foam ear pieces -- and easier to insert and take out -- than they are with the flanged tips.)

I have a pair of Etymotics and a pair of the new Creative canal phones (the ones that look just like the Sennheisers ... in the U.S., anyway, they are priced well below the Sennheisers). If you are not on a very loud train or bus, the canal phones might block enough outside noise to still be useful; however, if you are in a loud environment, your Etymotics (or any IEM) might serve you better.

Yeah, my main problem with the Etys ER6i is that they are a bit uncomfortable to put and to remove. Foam tips are better, but they are not easy to find in Europe for the ER6i.

And in terms of sound, how do the Creative compare with the Etys??

Well, the Creatives aren't in the same league as the Etymotics or other IEMs ... but they sound good for their type (in-ear canal phones). Some say the Sennheisers sound better, but I can say that the Creatives sound better to me than my Sony canal phones (which I like, by the way, although many people criticize the Sony's).

So, for what they are (and the price), the Creatives sound good. (One thing -- since perfect fit isn't as important as it is with the Etymotics, I find the sound quality more consistent, if that makes sense. With the Etymotics, the seal is important -- when the seal is broken, the sound changes. With the Creatives (and other canal phones), the sound doesn't change as much when you adjust the earphones within the ear.)
