Circuit Specialists sent an email with a 40 mhz Protec scope for $319. Is this a good deal? Are the PC based scopes ok for amp building? What features/ specs would an audio hobbyist find most useful?

I would look for an older analog scope like from Tectronics. the PC based scopes are good but can glitch out if your circuit misbehaves and for $300 USD a good analog scope with a bandwidth above 20 MHz should be available and is fine for Audio.

tektronix 2467B!

Best scope ever for audio use.

Tektronix 2465B or C second best scope ever.

Look carefully at hamfests and the like and you will
eventually find one in good condition, cheap.

I've been pondering a scope purchase lately.

For day-to-day tinkering around, what would be an adequate scope? What are some of the features to look for?

What bandwidth? The 2467A is 400MHz - will 100MHz do?
Traces - more is better?

Let's hear some more suggestions!

ok,
erix
