I bought this little toy for only $75 canadian, and I think it is well worth the price. it is a flash player, with 256mb of memory, with voice recording, fm tuner, fm recording, and lineout

First, looking at the design, it is very simple, yet very attractive design.
The chromy silver makes the unit also very modern

The display has blue backlight, with very clear text. The lcd is only 2 line, and it displays id3 tags. it supports lyrics also.

As you have realized, there are many buttons on the front of the unit, and it may look ugly. but they are actually not buttons.. it is a TOUCH PAD!

the touch pad is very sensitive, but unlike the zen micro, you do not navigate through the songs, thus it only has simple purpose of stop pause rewind, and volume.

when a button is touched, it glows orange,, and lcd lights up blue..

I cannot judge the sound quliaty, because the only earbuds i have are the psp earbuds, (mdr-808)... because i lost my mx300 couple months ago...
but testing with my 2.1 speakers, i can give some initial impressions...

there are 4 presets, normal jazz rock and classic, with user eq
the user eq is 2-band, means bass and tresble adjustments only...
there is a SRS WOW effect.... a surround effect found in many flash players...

the player it self lacks in bass.. like an ipod mini... the mids are somewhat muffled, and highs are somewhat clear... the s/n ratio is only 80db...
even with the maximum bass in user eq, there is not much improvements...

the srs wow effects make the sound bit tinny, and adds low bass.. and removes mids.... which simulates surround sound, but it sounds becomes very sharp..

the included earphones also suck... like the ones come with rio karma, or rio carbon..

the battery life is only 20 hours of using 2 AA... batteries...
this is very low for a flash mp3 player... since it uses touchpad, it seem to drain the battery more and more power..

there are some nifty features of this mp3 player...
you can start voice recording at one touch... because there is a seperate button for it... the lyrics support is also very useful... you can read the verses on the lcd... there is almost no delay in skipping to the next track.. and i couldnt hear any clicks or pops..

surprisngly.. the player comes with a leather case... it covers the entire player.. also doubles as a belt clip

pros
excellent value ($75 cdn)
touchpad
modern design
comes with leather case, lanyard
easy control

cons
lack of bass
mediocre battery life with 2 AAA
usb 1.1
