Bringing back to life an old thread.
I talked to Ray last week and he told me he has a new upgrade for the A-10 Thunderbolt. It replaces a number of capacitors and resistors and makes the A-10 more musical and increase the bass and texture of the sound without loosing the detail we love from a electrostatic system.
A fellow Headfier sent me a PM over the weekend to let me know he was over Ray's place and listened to the A-10 with the upgrade and his only comment was .. WOW!
Today Ray received mine for the upgrade. Can't wait to get it back and listen.......

This is the first I've heard about Ray Samuels amps in a long long time. Is he still actively producing and selling amps?

I know he is semi-retired. I don't think he is designing anything new and probably producing from inventory he has but it is jut my speculation but for sure he is providing support to customers.

I got my upgraded A-10 yesterday. last night I did a quick listen and even from being cold the only thing I can say is WOW!
I have never heard my SR-009 sounding like this. The bass is incredible! I threw at it a few songs like Sail Away for David Gray and A Thousand Years from Sting which both have a deep bass at the beginning of the song and it was handled perfect. The midrange sounds more natural and organic and nothing was lost at the top or in detail. The sound just got more enveloping.
To be honest I was contemplating getting out of electrostatics before but after this upgrade there is no way!

Any A-10 Thunderbolt owner should contact Ray to get this upgrade. You will be surprised by its cost (wink wink) and the resulting sound.

Exact same response I had when I was at Ray's having him update and replace the battery on my SR71b as well as take a quick look at my Stealth and Apache. It was the first time I had that reaction to an electrostatic amplifier.
