A lot of CDs have either become lost/stolen over the years and I'm looking to build up my collection again. Does anyone have experience with BMG and Columbia House type places and would recommened one way or another whether or not to use them?

I'm looking for a very cost effective way to do this because I do not want to pay $12-15 including shipping for CDs.

I use Amazon Marketplace for orders here and there and like it, but would rather do my shopping on one spot rather than through all the different sellers etc.

Any advice???

Have you tried a pawn shop? I can't speak from experience, but seems like they would have CD's. I know Tampa, FL has a very good used CD store, but don't know if they can compete with 5.99, like yourmusic.com. I haven't picked up anything there in a few years and don't remember the prices. You should check your area for a used CD store. This was not a major chain that sold new and used, all they had was used, if I remember right.

Half.com if you don't mind buying used... I've had nothing but good experiences there with sellers. Prices vary from expensive to acceptable to incredible bargains.

I haven't tried Yourmusic.com yet. Only because my wife belongs to BMG already. She used to belong to Columbia House Music but they passed all the members to BMG and stopped doing music.
If I had it to do over again, I would go with Yourmusic.com.

Pawns shops are a great way to find used CDs on the cheap. Half.com is another great resource. For music clubs, BMG/Yourmusic is the only game left in town.

I'm in the BMG club. If you want CDs they actually carry (their selection is limited), it's practically a steal. Every now and then they do Buy 1 Get 2 Free, or Buy 1 Get 2 Free Plus 60% Off Shipping, or even Buy 1 Get 3 Free No Shipping, or something like that. You just have to wait for those special offers.

Yourmusic.com isn't a club the way BMG is. Yeah, you've got to buy something every month, but you select what you want, put in your queue and it comes. No cards, no hassle, and only $5.99 *including* shipping. You can also buy whatever you want at the same price - $5.99 per disc (multiple disc sets cost the appropriate multiple of $5.99 but can't be put in your queue). Also, you can quit at any time.

If they've got what you want it's an unbeatable deal.

SennFan -

I see you live in New York (the city I presume?). You've got to have some the best used CD/music stores in the country there, perhaps the world. I'd suggest hitting the pavement, and starting the hunt. Part of the fun is the thrill of acquisition, and finding those treasured CD.
