New Head-Fier
I've had both iRivers for about a dozen years. The 20GB HD in the H120 went bad and I replaced it with the Toshiba 30GB HD.
The batteries on both the H120 (I'd call it an H130 now) and the H140 (still with original 40GB HD) have been pretty weak for years, but still usable if charged very frequently. I bought a couple of Cameron Sino 2200mah batteries off Ebay about 2 years ago. They came with tools. I haven't gotten around to installing them, partly because I know it can be tricky.
A week ago, I decided to take a close look at the project and found a ~22 minute video that's pretty good of a replacement with what I'm pretty sure is the exact same battery I have into an H120 player. It was NOT reverse polarity. Now, the woman had trouble getting the case back together and she said (and showed) that it didn't fully snug up. She was optimistic it would be OK. She thought it had to do with the fact that the 2200mah battery is thicker than the original. She'd contemplated removing the HD cushioning material, but didn't. I figure it could be removed or replaced with thinner cushioning material. I always keep my H1xx players wrapped in a handkerchief and in a plastic bag, so cushioning would not be as necessary for me.
Well, I'm wondering. Is the 30GB HD I have in the H120 thicker than the original 20GB HD? That would be an issue.
Also, and this is probably a biggie: I see that the case of my H130 is cracked... on both sides! If I take it apart now, I might not be able to get it back together!
ALSO, and this could be a biggie: Yesterday, I went to charge the H130 and after the light showed up showing it was charging the light went out. I plugged it in again, the light flickered on for a split second, went off and has never shown again. The H130 can't be charged now! Funny thing is, the unit turns on, showed a decent charge (3.89v). I used it to make a 3 hour recording and it's now 3.73v. Still can't charge it. Have no idea why. I mean, the battery's working but can't be charged. Strange. Also, after replacing the 20GB HD in the H120 with a 30GB HD, the hold button wasn't engaged. Guess I screwed that up. I don't really care if the hold button works on it, but maybe it's an issue somehow. I'll try to get it engaged if and when I replace the battery in the unit.
Well, the H130 may be screwed, have no idea. Should I get a smaller battery for it, say 1300mah? Or can I hope to put one of those 2200mah batteries in it and hope/expect it to work?
The battery replacements would be the most important upgrades I could make now, I figure. Maybe replacing the HD with SSDs, would make sense. I saw mention of putting in a CF card??? What's that? Flash memory? RT clock would be great, but figure that might be difficult. Extra storage isn't important to me with these devices. I have been having a LOT of problems with my OS's complaining about drive errors with the H130 player and have to scan it to fix errors pretty frequently. I have no idea what that's about. I'm using Windows computers.
Thanks for any help here!
