I am a long time user (a happy one) of the Etymotics HF5. Unfortunately I lost one of
the original eartips, this silicone three-flange thingie (sorry...I am neither an expert on
this field nor a native speaker...it only can get better....;).

Etymotics told me, the HF3 would be the current version of the hf5, but I don't want
to call an inearphone obsolete by loosing a below-10$-piece of silicone.

Is there any replacement known, which works mechanically as it work acoustically and
is not one these foam thingies? May be a cross-compatible piece of another brand?
What can I do to preserve my Etymotics HF5 and its sound?

Thanks a lot from a desperate listener...

Hi nhk2508,
(I am no native English speaker,...sorry...)

thank you very much for the link! :)
That looks very promising!

From the hotline of Etymotics I got the information, that ear tips of the the HF3 would work - it is the successor of the HF5. BUT: 10 pieces ~15$ (which is ok) and 54$ shipping to Germany (which is ...no words...). I read that the sound of the hf5 is very sensitive to ear tip model/changes/forms...
What is your experience in this regard?

Hi mate,

Yes, I confirm that the sound of etymotic earphones are tip sensitive. While the foam eartips boost the bass and attenuate the high mid and treble, the new double flange eartips shift music phase a bit which make the sound slightly different than usual.

I myself once ordered original etymotic triple flange eartips from Amazon (high shipping cost) and then different Aliexpress eartips to compare. That's why I can say the Aliexpress ones match the original in term of sound quality at much more affordable price irrespective of slighly different inner bore. No other kinds of eartips are usable except the ones as provided via the link.

Best,

Sorry for my late reply...got some "local problems" to solve...
I ordered a couple of the bigger and the smaller ones - they are already in transit according to postal-ninja. The seller estimates the delivery for the 14. Dec...
When they arrived I will check which size will fit and then order a greater amount - just to be prepped for the future :)
Thanks a lot for your help and support, nhk2508...your info have saved my earphones!!! :)
Cheers!
