i just bought a new pcdp from The Bay, it's an ascent acd01-sl. i cant find any info on the net about it.

i need some professional feedback from all you audio brainiacks

its got a line out that is not effected by volume.
anyways heres what the specs in the manual say:

PICK-UP
system - compact disc digital audio system
laser diode- material: GaAIAs
properties - wavelength: (weird symbol) =780nm
emission duration: continuous
laser output: <44.6 uW
error correction - cross-interleave reed-solomon code

AUDIO
D/A conversion - 1-bit DAC 8 times oversampling
frequency response - 20-20,000hz (+1/-3 db)
no. of channels - 2 channels (stereo)
output level - line output:0.5 V rms (47K (ohms symbol, i think))
earphone: 22mw (32 (ohms symbol again))
bass boost effect(100hz) - +7.5 db.
wow and flutter - below measurable limits

I DONT KNOW WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS!!
any feedback is good feedback!

If you take some pictures of the guts, I might be able to help you on the technical parts of the ICs on it, but I can't guarantee that.

As far as the specs, they're pretty standard for something like one of those $20-30 PCDPs that are still sold. 8 times oversampling isn't so hot for 1bit D/A, but it'll probably still get decent dynamic range in the portions of the audible spectrum that matter the most...unless it has a _really_ good noise shaper...which I doubt.

Ah, okay. It actually looks similar to one of Sony's units. I forget the model number. Although the lack of tantalum caps distinguishes it from the newer Sonys.

Glad you're enjoying it
