Looking to setup a new audio setup. Going to use something like RuneAudio or Volumino.

Was thinking about hooking this up to a Shiit Mjolnir 2

So just asking for a sanity check here. Am I off my rocker?

Thanks in advance

That looks like it was designed for the first generation Raspberry Pis and might not work with modern ones.

Ok thanks for the heads up. This one looks like it's still available though. www.twistedpearaudio.com/digital/opus.aspx

Am I wrong to assume that this will work with the rpi i2s?

The first generation Pi had a different pinout for I2S. Therefore, the first one you listed may need modifications. The second one is not a plug in board and should work just fine.

Suggest you contact Twisted Pear to see if the Opus works without a master clock (MCLK) line, the RPI does not supply that signal.
The more expensive Buffalo does.

The RPI needs a lot more beyond connecting it to a DAC, the bitsteam from the RPi needs to be reclocked to stabilize it as well as galvanic isolation to keep noise down.
This adds up costwise.

I am using I2S on my RPI connected to the Soekris DAM1021. This is a R2R DAC with reclocking and galvanic isolation of the I2S lines.
