Radiohead vs. Pink Floyd

honestly though, i think this poll just makes Radiohead into too small of an underdog. I love their music dearly, but there's no way i consider them superior to Floyd

I see this poll going some what like old vs. young where younger people vote on Radiohead because they're more familiar with them and seasoned people vote on Pink Floyd cuz they're more akin to Pink Floyd's music.

Personally, I prefer to listen to Radiohead more but I'd give my vote to Pink Floyd since they gave a lot of influence to Radiohead.

Being an artist, I don't really get the opportunity to have serious conversations about music anymore. A friend of mine used to study classical music composition and then one day he picked up and shipped off to India to study classical Indian music. It was about the only person I was able to seriously talk to about music and actually understood how music was written. Since then, my thoughts about music have pretty much been in a vacuum. It is one of the reasons I started these polls. I would really appreciate it though if others would explain their decisions so that I and perhaps others could learn and have a dialog about these matters.

I think it's premature to try to measure Radiohead with the all time legends of rock. They haven't gone through enough phases yet to get a real sense of how their work will evolve, not like U2 and Pink Floyd.

Measuring them against contemporaries like Coldplay is more reasonable, but Coldplay clearly is trying to reach a pop music market, where Radiohead succeeds at making more dense, difficult music (but of course with its own weird brand of pop appeal).

Premature? Radiohead's been around for 24 years and countless young and old bands around the world are influenced by their music and you call it premature? I'm sorry but it sounds like you don't know much about Radiohead and their influences around the world. Yes, Pink Floyd's legendary status is no match for Radiohead but saying that they didn't go through enough phases sounds like an absurd statement.

Please stop making these ridiculous polls... Radiohead is a decent enough band, but they are in no way the greatest band of all time or even the greatest band of the last (5, 10, 20, whatever) years. They have a time and a place but I think the outcome of these polls is obvious.

-Coldplay is highly derivative of Radiohead, so there is no contest there
-U2 has lost a lot of popularity in recent years due to Bono's insistence on acting like he's better than everyone else.
-Do I really need to comment on the Pink Floyd issue?

Head-fi is not a forum for copycat posts and redundant threads, so lets stop comparing Radiohead to non-analogous bands and start finding something new to obsess over.

I disagree. It's a fair question to ask who we prefer and for what reason, even if the difference is "obvious." It's what gets conversation rolling. Furthermore, the "correct answer" isn't obvious it seems, given that both bands always get votes.

Gilmour & Wright combo was the best ....sadly i could never attend their concert.
