I'm currently considering buying one to carry around my gear for my overseas trip early next year, and was wondering which one would be best.

I'm currently looking at the following on ebay:

1) i1010
2) Micro case 1010
3) Micro case 1040

Which one would be best? I've never owned a Pelican case, but the recent article on anythingbutipod and other forum posts have me considering.

I mainly want to carry around 1 MP3 player, My Corda XXS amp and a pair of IEMs (UM3, SF5pro, whatever). My largest MP3 player is probably my iRiver H320 and 2nd gen ipod touch, and I'm worried about whether everything would fit.

The i1010 is designed to fit a single iPod with earphones, so it's too small for a player plus an amp.

I bought a 1080 for a laptop (I no longer own the laptop) - it's built like a tank.

i1010 has a adaptor for headphone. If you used it, maybe the SQ will be damaged.

If you only use it as a carry case, I think i1010 can probably accommodate an XXS amp and one mp3 player, because XXS is small (not sure).

1010 is bigger than i1010, so 1010 may be a better choice if you want to put everything in it, but the protective effect of 1010 is not as good as that of i1010.
