Here's the claim:

"Musicmatch Jukebox is the only all-in-one jukebox that delivers free unlimited CD- quality recording/ripping using the industry leading Fraunhofer MP3 encoder."

What's your opinion? How does it compare to Lame?

I checked both these codecs, Lame and Fraunhofer, ~year ago (do a search here). I also did notice a strange siren/ringing sound in higher frequency areas in mp3 files created using Fraunhofer (version number is told there in my testing post). I had an Audigy 2 at that time so it can be related to it's hardware/drivers too. If you plan to rip < 192kbps then use Lame (but I suggest to check that weird sound in higher frequencies).

And if you plan to rip 192+kbit then you should arguably be using MP2, not MP3... but that's another can o' worms.

The Fraunhofer encoder was (is) pretty good at delivering decent quality at lower bitrates.

The LAME encoder is pretty good at delivering great quality at moderate to high bitrates.

With storage as cheap as it is, use LAME.

I do remember reading (and hearing) LAME being fairly pathetic at very low bitrates. If that's your aim, the Fraunhofer should offer better encoding. Otherwise, stick to LAME

But if you're after low bitrates (which I doubt you are), OGG beats everything!
