hi all. need some firsthand feedback on any comparisons between the superfi5pro and the qjays. i understand the latter is relatively new, which is why i've failed to elicit much by posting in the qjay threads, and it's also why i decided to start a new thread solely for the comparison of these 2.
i'm lookin at get either pair, and here's some of the feedback i've managed to gather. please feel free to correct any false impressions i might have.

UE superfi5pros:
1) recessed mids
2) powerful bass
3) fun pair of iems

qjays:
1) much smaller
2) laidback sound
3) wider soundstage
4) slightly recessed mids
5) newer tech
6) analytical

unfortunately, i'm only able to audition the superfi5pros here and they're very much to my liking, even though i can do with less heavy bass.
vocal reproduction is very important to me (i almost always turn it up in the eq), so i was thinking if the qjays were to excel in that area significantly over the superfis, i'd get em.
also, there's been multiple views that the qjays sounds more far back compared to the superfis which are more forward, and was wondering if anyone actually found this a problem.
lastly, anyone think the qjays are too analytical? i'm not the kind to scrutinise , but who'd mind great detail? but only if it doesn't sound cold.

i'll likely make a decision within the next 2 days, so please do help me out!

The q-JAYS does not have recessed mids, they have a flat response which does not favour any part of the sound, everything is very balanced..

I like the details in the q-JAYS it is in no way harsh or sharp, the details are just there..

I have started using my q-JAYS at work and listen to them 8 hours a day and it is a real joyride for me, no problems at all, they even isolate a little better than my e-500..

I normally use the d-JAYS at work and they are very forward in the mids and compared to them, the q-JAYS could seem to be more far back, but that is an illusion it is not the q-JAYS that are recessed, but the d-JAYS that are forward (if that makes any sense)..

regarding soundstage which is every IEM weak point, I will say that the q-JAYS is a bit wider in their sound than other IEMs i have heard, you do not get dt-880 soundstage by far, but you will be able to hear the positions of the instruments..

Hope this is helpfull, I do not have the opportunity to listen to the superfis, so I really can not compare the phones, I have compared them with e-500 in another thread (search and you will find), maybe that can be of some help..

thanks for your reply! i'm glad to hear the vocals aren't suffering on this pair of iems. like i said, it's my utmost priority. do u use an EQ to boost any part of the freq, despite the qjays being very flatresponsed as you said?

ive yet to try the q-jays but did like the super fi 5,i havnt personally got excited over the q-jays because its too little too late,im waiting for a triple driver outing, they may well be flat and balanced, but with only dual driver i cant see them being as clean in mids and bass as my current se530,im sure they are great tho.im just pretty sure i would not downgrade to the q-jays no matter what anybody says, ill personally wait for a bunch of proffesional reviews to make my judgement

I do never use EQ on my player exept, when I am using the e-500 to get some treble.
But the q-JAYS respond very well too EQ if you want to..

Yes I have had my q-JAYS for almost 3 months now...

I do not think that q-JAYS are a downgrade from e-500 in any way, they are as clean in mids an bass as my e-500, they just have less bass, the e-500 are a little bassy for my taste...

The SQ of both phones are very good and it is in my opinion more a matter of which soundsignature that are most to ones liking..

If I had to chose either the e-500 or q-JAYS, I tend to chose the q-JAYS not because they have better soundQ, but because of the design and ease to use and the q-JAYS signature is also better to my ears...

anyway, why're you so sure you'd take the qjays over the superfi5pros any day?

Nahhh, I am just a dairy-worker who makes ingrediens for the foodindustry.....

I just tell you my honest opinion...

If I wanted to sell the q-JAYS to you, I would be much more positive and then your drooling would be threatning to become a flod and drown you..

I even try not to be biased towards JAYS...

lol bro you mistake me... i wasn't trying to imply that you were trying to sell em to me, or that you were being biased.. only that it sounds really promising.

i think the only problem with the q-jays is its special trick of being so small, there seems to be a sence of valnerability about them, but i think its better than the huge super fi's,i liked the super fi's i really did they are serious headphones and very good, but theres a sence also of better quality and flatter sound to the q-jays and as exciting and bassy as the super fi's are its sometimes over done and so flatter would be better.

ofcourse too flat becomes boring i do like a bit of warmth and punch, the super fi has that in bundles

that's exactly my point. i'm not a basshead.. but like alot of ppl, music is purely a form of enjoyment for me, not a job. so while precision is welcome, if it's cold and lackin in fun that is the result, i'd rather take the superfi5pros and turn down the bass.. i just need that musicality.
i dn't think vulnerability is goign to be a problem. in the other qjay threads, kramer has time and again stressed how durable these iems are.. and seeing as he's had em for some time he can't be wrong..
