500+ Head-Fier
Hey guys. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you have a current ATH-AD series headphone that supports 53mm drivers, you can purchase the AD2000 drivers directly from Audio Technica for $45 a piece. The total for two drivers is $90 plus $4 shipping (USA). Just hit an email over at parts@atus.com, and they'll show you through the ropes (address, credit card information or paypal).
So really, you can buy something like the AD700 ($100), get the drivers ($94), and basically have the AD2000's sound while pocketing around $400. You'll also have one of the best open headphones available without the steep price. I'm interested in how they'll sound in my modified AD900s. The only downside is that you need to know how to use a soldering iron so you can solder the wires to the driver.
