Dec 6, 2007: Practical Devices has launched the XM5, a new standard in portable amplifiers. The XM5 has a USB DAC, separate amplification and strong output buffers in a mono block configuration, switchable bass, treble, and gain boost, switchable 75Ω output impedance, and variable cross feed. No other portable amp packs this much. XM5 with Black Case

I have been waiting quite some time for PD to come out with the Xm5 the XM4 has been a great work horse and with an AD822 or the newer LME49720 it sounds incredible. I was a bit taken back by the price at 235.00 without any buffers however. The black looks real nice and I'm glad to see that with the Xfeed they added a treble boost as that has always been the downfall of Xfeed.

I will be putitng my order in this week I have about 100 Opamps right now so Im sure i will find the right combo. Of course I do not agree with the OP134's as default they sound muddy which is fine if you have a crummy first generation Ipod but if you have a Cowon, Iriver or the new Sony A800 series then you will notice right away... I wish that Practical Devices would consider putting up a forum for suggestions they have always been very good with email response but it would be nice to see the feedback from the community on their site.
Im also a bit concerned about the USB Dac being used not very descriptive however Im hoping for the best. I know the Xm4 has been a great portable and really loves the new Sony A818 Mp3 player I picked up sounds incredible.

It shall be interesting so see if the upgrade is worth while. I hope to be able to review the amp within the next week or so.
