I just ordered a set of Alec Lansing iM716's. I have a PowerMac G4 MDD FW800 machine, and want to know the best way to hook up my headphones.

Those of you familiar, there is a headphone port on the front, and in the back. There is also a Line Out port in the back, which right now is running to a KLH receiver with a cheap Radio Shack stereo -> rca cable. And there is also a Pro-Audio port, which of course, only those goofy apple orb speakers work with.

So, for the best sound, how should I hook up? I would like to stay amp-less, even though I know that the iM716 are power hungry, I don't want to spend anymore than $30 more dollars on my set up, which I can only use until I go to school in August anyway.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Given those constraints, I don't see any reason to spend another penny on this. Save your money and enjoy what you have. It's only 2-3 months.

BTW, the headphone port on the KLH receiver (does it even have a headphone port?) may give you better sound than the PM's headphone ports. Try it and let us know what you hear.

Edit:
My only concern is that the MDD isn't exactly known for silent operation. The term Wind Tunnel comes to mind

Oh, I know all about the wind tunnel. But it's become a natural noise to me, almost so much so that I have trouble sleeping if it's not on.

So in looking into this, I decided I should look into the PowerWave, but it has been discontinued. So maybe the FireWave. What do you guys think of these products (Both Griffen Tech).

Do they amplify well? I guess since they will be lasting investments I can spend the money on them.
