I just started using foobar but I can't seem to find my optimal configuration yet. I was wondering how everybody configures foobar here (especially with the AV-710). So, what skins, dsp's and other settings are most important to you?

I can get asio to work now with the chaintech av-710 and the 4.32b driver.

I set the card to high sample rate
;connect my amp to the rear out
;connected my mic to my ac-97 onboard soundcard (recording is disabled on chaintech with high sample rate on)
;disabled windows sounds
;resampler (SSRC) set to 96khz with slow mode off (with slow mode on, crackling and noise occurs during playback)
;Asio enabled with default settings (I am using wave out for the moment because sometimes other necessary program sounds interrupt playback in fb and I have to restart the song each time)

Are these settings ok?

This is what I'm currently using in FB:
  1. columns_ui
  2. modded plisk (from a member of head-fi, don't remember who)
Can someone post a link to plisk 1.5 (I can't find it) or another, better columns interface?
  3. Simple global hotkeys for my multimedia keyboard (playback functions only)
  4. foo_shuffle
  5. wave out
  6. crossfeed
  7. resampler SSRC
  8. Volume Control

There are some things I would like to configure but I don't know how:

Certain programs browse to the letter pressed on the keyboard depending on the active column. Can foobar do this?

Can I configure a keyboard shortcut to switch to foobar when I'm running another program?

I would like to be able to edit ID3v1 and v2 tags at once and I want the m both synchronized.

Can I quickly delete a song completely from my hd in foobar?

What's the difference between add files, add location and add directory?

How do I configure replay gain without altering my tags?

I also discovered a program called "moodlogic" a couple of months ago.
http://www.moodlogic.com/ml20features.html
It isn't free but I think it's great value for its money. You can generate playlist by mood (e.g. mellow, sad, upbeat). You can create a perfect mix by selecting one of your favorite songs (moodlogic automatically selects similar songs). This program is very useful if you have lots of "low" quality songs with incomplete tags. Users can profile there songs using special algorithms. Your tags are automatically fixed (I use MP3 Tag studio do make adjustments myself though) This is why all your mixes are so great. All data is uploaded to there servers and compared to other people's song profiles. This program works together with winamp but could I get it to work with foobar? I uninstalled winamp now and I set wmp not to play mp3's by default. How do I set foobar as default player now? The icons in front of the files are still wmp :s

A lot of questions to answer here

Simpler, smaller, faster.
You can change it to your personal preferences in so many ways.
Btw almost all audiophiles use it so why wouldn't it be better.

Anyway this is off topic, I already decided to use foobar I would only like to know what your settings are...

Here's another request for a plugin... perhaps somebody could make it if it doesnt exist yet.
I would like to be able to go to sleep with foobar. This means I must be able to set playback for a certain time, lets say about 30min. After more or less than 30min. foobar should end the song with a fadeout and then shut down my pc.

I don't think anyone has written a component to do that yet. Try suggesting that over at the Foobar2000 forums at www.hydrogenaudio.org.

Columns_UI might be able to do this. Or you could use the Playlist Search function (Playlist -> Search, or F3).

Can't help you there

By default I think that Fooba uses APEv2 & ID3v1 tags instead of ID3v2 because the ID3v2 specification is incredibly hard to impliment or something. You can download components that enable ID3v2 editing if you want. I believe that for a while Foobar shipped with default settings that stripped ID3v2 tags from MP3 files, but the latest version does not (by default).

I believe there is a component that does this, but I'm having trouble accessing it's website.

Add files lets you add individual files to the playlist, add location lets you add web addresses (for streaming audio) to the playlist, and add directory adds whole directories to the playlist.

Not exactly sure what you mean here. ReplayGain is simply a set of tags added files that tells Foobar how much gain to apply, and enabling or disabling ReplayGain functionality in Foobar doesn't change the tags.

I'm not sure. Try asking the Moodlogic developers.

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Foobar2000 -> Foobar2000 Associations then select the file formats you want Foobar to play.

Thanks, at last straight forward response, that's what I need.

I heard that some programs write replaygain info to the ID3 tags themselves and foobar doesn't. How do I configure replaygain then?

EDIT: YES, I'm a 100+ member

Foobar2000 has a built-in ReplayGain scanner. Just right click on the files you want to scan and select one of the options under the Replagain sub-menu.

You have to be kidding. Nothing against Foobar, but I'd love to hear the source that stated almost all audiophiles use it. Most aren't even using computers, let alone a specific program. This same thing happened on the Mac side with Audion. Man even Foobars creators try to minimize the false rumors about it and "superior" sound quality over Winamp/iTunes/etc.

Though it may not sound better, it does have a lot of options to tweak that are important for audiophiles such as output data format and sample rate. Plus it is also one of the most flexible players around (in a Foobar 0.9.0 wishlist thread over at Hydrogen Audio all but one of the features people wanted could be implimented as components for the 0.8.x releases).
