Hey guys. I've noticed something when trying my new senns, that may have been brought up previously, though I cant find anything on search. When I place my IE7's and IE8's in my ears, I always seem to get a loud popping noise after the seal is made & I push in. Is this the driver diaphragm popping or something else? If it is the driver, should I be concerned that it's damaging them? I noticed this happens mainly when I use any dynamic-driver iem's, and have never had an issue w/ any of my BA iems, leading me to believe its the force of air pressure on the driver.

Anyone else experience this?

is it both sides or just one? it sounds like driver flex to me or whatever the correct terminology is. I had it on my M6 before I got it replaced.

mainly just the right side on the ie7's, although I do notice it if I push a certain way on the left side, but the right side pops pretty much every time I put them in.

IE8's are more hit and miss, but it does happen.

I just worry the air pressure is damaging the diaphragms, or they're faulty? But like I said, it seems to happen with many of the dynamic-driver iems I get, so maybe my ear canals are just faulty?

It is natural and happens to every dynamic earphone which isn't vented properly. In order to achieve seal, there needs to be only a small opening, but some don't have even that. Those ones will crinkle more as air gets compressed from insertion into your ear. That is why earbuds make no such sound - they are open. If they were closed, their driver would crinkle too.

I would wager 90% or more crinkle to some extent or another - it is simply in the nature of sealed dynamic inner earphones - it's not a problem.

its not something you really usually encounter on well ventilated IEM's like the IE's. are you covering the vents with your finger when your inserting them?

hmmm... on the IE7's, I'm not covering the vents on the top of the housings at all when insterting them. There arent any other vents to speak of, are there??

These may be going back to the dealer...

I get sort of a 'squeak' sound when inserting my right side IE8. I thought it's maybe air being pushed in through the earphone, and escaping out from the vent (bass dial). I never worry about it though.

no, maybe its the tips catching in your ear and the pop is them snapping back into shape?

cant say ive heard of anyone having this issue so could be a buggered pair

pretty sure it's not the tips. I get the same result if I use the foam tips, and it sounds exactly like the crinkling noise of the diaphragm inside.

They're being returned as we speak. Thanks all for the help.

My UE Metro.Fi 200s do this, as well as my Creatives. My IE8s have not done this yet, though I've been using the Comply tips which don't make an air tight seal when you first insert them.
