Hi Everyone,

I was happy to find your forum after hours of web surfing looking for an excellent headset to use with my MMORPG. It seems impossible to find one that fits all my needs. I've used a few over the last year (Logitec and Plantronics) and now I know exactly what to look for. I play my game every night and want the best headset, IF its out there. Money is no object.

*Great GAMING sound

*A microphone with a MUTE

*I have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card and want to plug into the sound card...so NOT a USB headset

*Padding for the top of the head

*Ear comfort as well

*I would like noise cancelling if possible

Many headsets are cheap and painfully uncomfortable. They are out.

Many have USB connections so I loose the advantage of my sound card...they are out.

Lots of the best headsets...like the Razer HP-1 Barracuda and the Medusa dont have a mute control and this is absolutely necessary. Have you ever sneezed into a mic with 5 people on the other end? ; )

It also has to have a volume control.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Xanthe

ya I don't think any dedicated headsets would have as good sound as a good headphone and separate mic.

i jump on the previous posts too, but i have yet to see a decent configuration of a good headphone + separate mic rig. show us some examples!

I wear some Sennhesier PC150's around my neck for the mic (desktop mics pick up too much background noise) with DT880's as my primary phones.

The mute thing is silly, get used to hitting a key to talk instead of voice activated automatic talk.

Hummm, push to talk may be silly to some but my MMORPG requires a very active right click mouse attack and uses the left hand on one end of the keyboard for controlling the character and I personally just cant manage another button to push every time I want to talk. I know a lot of people do this but Im not so adept..I need the open mic and the mute.

Thanks for the suggestion of a separate mic...I had not thought of that.

Get a mouse with side mouse buttons and use mouse4 or mouse5 for push to talk. I play CSS quite a bit and it doesn't detract one bit using my mouse4.

For voice comms you only need an el chepo £3 white mic on a stand (works fine for me). Use your normal headphones or some better ones than the "gaming" headsets. I have used the medusa and it's awfull for music. The most important thing though is to set the mic to push to talk, the people on voice activation are the butt of so many jokes when they are unexpectedly inturupted and keypresses often turn on the voice activation much to the annoyance of others. This is particularly important for games such as WOW where acidently talking can get you kicked from a raiding guild.

good luck with your gaming.
