I was double checking prices on the internet and lowest I found
was only 189.99 USD

Isn't there any place that would sell it
for cheaper?

Also, is there absolutely no other way to change songs than with
the remote? Are there any buttons at all on the PCDP itself? How
wide is the LCD on the remote? Is the player's thinness so thin
it could eventually lead to it breaking or being damaged (or wires
close to the lid getting damaged)?

Now I'm starting to be worried a little bit. I need someone to tell
me to make a final choice once and for all. I was thinking of maybe
going with a Sony D-NE710 but I didn't see any specs on that
player yet so I'm not sure. The iMP-400 looks very great feature-
wise but I have my doubts as of the build quality and maybe it's
practical use when on the go. I mean, I would prefer a big LCD
that's _on_ the player instead of a small one on a remote tbh.
Same goes for the buttons, I don't really mind them being on a
remote but then again if it's just less hassle to have them on the
machine itself. The NE710 looks 'tougher' - better built than the iMP-400 too.

Damnit, someone please help me!!!!!!!!!

I had mine up for $165 on the FS/FT forum a day ago, but it's on ebay now. Sorry.

I've never heard of a D-NE710, but a D-CJ01 is another good MP3/CD player to consider. With the imp-400 there is a little wheel on the bottom with which you can play, pause, and skip tracks without the remote. There's no way to change the volume on the player though, you have to used the remote. The LCD is fairly large, easy to read everything. It's not any smaller than the one on that Sony. I don't see anything wrong with it's build quality, though I don't know how much abuse it would hold up to. If it isn't a player to use on the go I'm not sure what it is, since the reason I'm selling it is I don't listen much portably so I'm looking for something nice for home use instead. Easy to carry around, comes with a cover so it doesn't get scratched up in transit...

I'm not sure about that Sony you mentioned though, I'll have to look into it. Does it play MP3 cds as well?

EDIT: I just looked a bit on the web and found a press release saying that Sony isn't out until May. Check it out here:
http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/3137

It's not the top of the line either, but the $100 model (then again, the top of the line model has a super tiny LCD on the remote so I can see why you like the D-NE710 better). You might want to look into the imp-350 if you don't want to spend so much on the imp-400. I believe you can get it for $100 now from amazon with a rebate.

That is wrong. You can change volume without remote. Just hold that wheel a little bit longer, and volume changes.

You can also switch to radio mode when you press that wheel.

Thank you helento1. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to change the volume, but I guess it can be done.

Yep. It looks pretty much like the D-CJ01 actually, don't you think?
I did own a D-CJ01 a year ago but I returned it because of a little
detail - but a really important one to me - it didn't have a function
to ffwd through mp3 tracks.

Then came it not being firmware
upgradable and all but that's all way less important that the non-
ffwd thingy.

I would actually buy another one if only it ffwd'ed through mp3s
playback... <sigh>

Thanks to you guys I think I'm going to go with iMP-400 after
all. Argh, I know if I read a stupid NE710 review somewhere I'll
just start questionning myself all over again if I made the right
choice and all. Hrmmm.

After all.. I can always just return it if I don't like it... Hopefuly I
won't have to!

[EDIT]

Oh and now I learn the Sony isn't out till May! Great then, no
more reason for me to buy anything else than the SlimX.

I'll finally find a better use to my 800 mp3 CDs :p I think they're
bored being used as shelves in my closet :p

Maybe you can go with the imp-350. I own one and it's great. I just got the newest firmware upgrade (v2.12) and that little snake game is great. Most snake games just get faster and faster, this one actually uses level design to make you move more often.

The imp-350 is an excellent buy at $130, at least in my opinion.

Yeah you can get the snake game on the imp-400 as well.

Yes JiPi, the amazon price is the lowest one I've seen. It's rather new.

Hehe.. I don't think I'll be playing games on it.. Well, maybe. But
only if I'm really bored and have nothing else to do, which is
pretty damn rare (blame school).

So anyway, now I'm ordering the iMP-400 from Amazon

Thanks guys !

Anyone got a picture like this one for the iMP-400 ??
fullbox.jpg

Would be very useful.. And I'd like to know if there are any pics
of the buttons that are _on_ the player, too.. I kinda like how
they're made on the iMP-350.

Did you left click the photos? They're huge!! I don't think you're gonna see better pics on the web.. Anyway, it really doesn't matter considering there's only one button (jog dial) on the right side that controls all the basic functions.

If you never had an Iriver remote in your hands you'll be amazed at is diminutive size. Pics are decieving for sure when it comes to that tiny remote!!..

good luck,

Actually, I think I'm going to wait a bit more before I order
anything. I'll give a little time for the iMP-400's price to drop a bit
and maybe wait for some reviews of the new Sony's they've
announced at CES 2003. The D-NE7** (D-CJ0XXX according to the picture)
line looks like a very good alternative (although it doesn't have
the FM Tuner the iMP-400 has). It looks pretty well-built. If it's
anything like the D-CJ01 with improvements then I'm a buyer.
