Is there better for the money? I need a good headset. I know the 500 DSP have lots of problems regarding shorts in the cable, and they are somewhat uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

The 550 goes for about $65 on Newegg. Any other recommendations?

Honestly, there aren't any good headsets as far as sound quality is concerned. You're better off getting a decent pair of headphones paired with a Zalmac clip-on mic. What's your budget and what are you going to use them mostly for? I'm assuming your budget is around $65 and you want to use them for gaming, so a good choice may be the AKG K81 DJ.

I'd like to keep it under $100 if possible. I just took a look at that Zalman mic, but I was hoping for something that comes up closer to my mouth. I can't always talk at full volume, so being able to whisper is nice. I know this probably isn't the best place to ask this kind of information, but I know a lot of you guys are really knowledgeable about headphones of all types. I'd like to use it as my overall computer headphones...my computer audio/music, games, stuff like that.

As far as clip-ons go, are there any other microphones like the Zalman that would come up closer to my mouth?

Thanks!

I had a dsp 500 that I loved, but the microphone died. It is very comfortable though, and before the mic died I got compliments on its sound quality when I used it with teamspeak or ventrillo. I got the Zalman clip on mic, but I've had a lot of problems with it. It barely picks up my voice without mic boost, and has a lot of static with it.
