Dear Gurus!

Need your expertise to choose a headphone for office use. I currently own a Sennheiser CX 5.00i , which I enjoy the sound & isolation.

Not to mention, since I'll be using it at an open office, I don't want to disturb my fellow colleagues & vice versa ! This is the priority.

As mentioned above, I have an IEM, now I want to make a slight change and go for an over / on ear headphone.

I'll give you a couple examples regarding what I'm listening;

Electropop, Rock - Soft Rock (Mostly UK groups), folk rock, indie, deep house

I will use it with iphone 6 & Spotify premium, no DAC preferred. Let's keep it simple.

I narrowed my search to Beyerdynamics DT 770 pro 32 or 80 OHM, my only worry is they are huge and might look a bit weird. But since I'm going for the best isolation possible, I think I need to go for a closed one, which will be more or less this size.

My budget is up to 300$, please, feel free to mention a couple alternatives!

Thanks!

Sony MDR-100aap. New headphone, great soundstage and clarity, you don't need an app or DAC, lightweight, comfortable, closed, awesome for the genres you mentioned.

Looks flimsy but deceptively durable:

Looking good! Dig the red color.

One question, can you please compare isolation with Beyerdynamics dt 770?

Please bare in mind that I'll be using them at an open office where people don't talk much and complain a lot :)

Edit: The price is also very affordable. I'm working in Malaysia, and DT 770 Pro's are 230$, while 100app's are 160$. Still a winner.

If you are not used to using circumaural(aaround the ear) closed headphones, you might find as I do that these make your ears uncomfortably hot rather quickly, or that they are uncomfortable due to clamping force. Picking one with velour earpads helps make the ears overheat less, but also decreases isolation. Now you know why IEMs are so popular. With IEMs, one can have isolation without overheating ears.
