I purchased a 512 iShuffle yesterday, because>>>>>when I go out the door in the morning, I need to focus on work and want some entertainment and don't need to drag HDD's and all kinds of other hardware that could be damaged (dropped my H320 twice in the past month), lost, or stolen. Kind of like ham and cheese to go, leave the filet at home with the candle light and wine.
Cost, $99.00 plus tax at an Apple store, 14 day no questions asked return policy, $9.90 fee if opened, is this what they cost to manufacture
Why the 512MB over the 1GB, 512 packs in 8 hours of entertainment, more than enough for a days journey. Might get lost with 1GB and no display.
iTunes interface is very intuitive, there are mutilple methods of loading content, drag-n-drop, you name it, no rocket science here. The easiest is "AutoFill" which randomly fills the shuffle based on your preselected presets. Click "AutoFill" and the jukebox is ready to go, next day "AutoFill" again, another new playlist. iTunes allows you to print the playlist of what content is on the shuffle, so if you want to reference what's coming up, you can and jump to it, if you so desire.
Controls, simple and ergonomic, would prefer a slight ridge on the on/off control.
Size, amazing. It fits in my Ety ER4-P case, very cool.
Looks, I think this thing will end up in the MOMA.
Sound, I did not try the stock phones, still in box with the lanyard. Very very good with HD 555's, surprised it can drive them as well as it does, battery drain probably, does look silly hanging on to the end of the Grado adapter, an amp would be interesting (I don't have one, still in research). E3C's sounds great, full rich bass. ER4-P, with the triple flange sounds kind of thin, not the right balance, with the foamies super duper sound. E3's with flex sleeves or Ety's
with foam are great preformers, can't go wrong with either phone.
Overall, I am very impressed with this little gizmo and it should rack up a lot of miles when I am out and about.
