Philips Fidelio X1 vs BeyerDynamic DT990-gaming

Philips Fidelio X1 vs BeyerDynamic DT990

I have narrowed it down to these two for gaming. I have done some research and apparently the bass is better on the philips. The difference is they are $50-100 more expensive. I also live in canada and for some reason it seams like there is no dealer in canada that sells the x1. Getting the DT990 Should be no problem. So is it worth the extra money plus the difficulty to actually purchase a pair for the better sound?

This are two really different headphones, Fidelios are quite dark sounding headphones while DT990 are really bright headphones.
 
X1s are easy to drive while DT990s need extra amplification to sound good (250 Ohm and 600 Ohm versions)
 
I find that DT990 sound really good with the best audiophile recordings out there (TELARC, Chesky Records, etc) mostly classical, acoustic and jazz, but tend to sound thin and sibilant with most modern recordings and some classic pop/soft rock/rock recordings. They also tend to highlight every flaws in vocal recordings at a point that the sound is not engaging anymore.
 
On the other hand, Fidelios are laid back, forgiving of poorly recorded material, and definitely have soft highs in comparison.

They require different types of amplifiers, what do you currently plug your headphones into?

I plan on Mainly using it for my PC(gaming) and I am planing on getting an amp. Being able to use it on my phone without an amp would be a plus though.

The 30-Ohm Philips should work with your phone without the need of an amplifier, where as the 250-Ohm would require an amplifier.

Yea the problem is the Philips is its pretty expensive in Canada and its hard to find where as the DT990 is readily available for 200. I think I'm going to go with the DT990 since I will be mainly be using it with my pc and I am going to get an amp for it. Thanks for your input.

If you want open headphones with nice warm signature and punchy bass you should also consider Yamaha HPH-200. I like mine much more than my Fidelio L1 and M1. They are amazing all rounders and don't need extra amplification.
