Hi,
First post but I read a lot around here.
So I've got a bit of a dilemma... I just bought both of the subject headphones because I got the V-MODAs real cheap and new, and the Fidelios cost is now insanely good (see for yourselves: https://www.amazon.com/L2BO-27-Fidelity-Headphones-cushioning/dp/B00WTQDV5E). And since I have the amazing Philips Fidelio X2HR and I'm looking for something portable, I couldn't pass by that price.
I've been testing them a while now and I straight away you can hear they are totally different. I'm not very good with all the audiophile terms but there are some things I like and dislike about both. I may be a bit biased towards the Fidelios because of the big ones, which I realy like.
I keep testing both on different sources and every time I think one is "better", I get back to the other one and find out that I like it too.
So how do I break this down... I like both of them but for different things.
The M-100 has massive bass and sound overall but the thing is that it's like that bass is... EVERYWHERE, whereas the L2 controls everything and does it really well, and doesn't lack bass at all.
M-100 are really compact, look great on the head and have an awesome, tiny case but the pads are small as well and they touch the ears. This is really not optimal and it gets quite hot in those.
L2s are quite big, a bit too big for portables (head-wise), but the design is just... ah awesome. They are comfortable.
L2s leak... quite a lot (well not as much as those X2s, which sound the same inside and outside...), isolation is not as bad as I expected but I'll have to check them out on a train or something. The modas leakage is just ok.
So here's where your possible posts come in.
Any votes for or against any of these?
Any alternatives to them? Sony's MDR-1AM2, AKG, Beyerdynamic?
Which one should I keep? Or should I sell them both?
What do I need: Portable headphones, that I can use on a train/bus/plane and maybe in the office a bit. NOT on ear or any in ear. Basically if there's a portable set sounding like the Fidelio X2, then take my money
For what type of music: Mostly metal, rock but also some electronic music, symphonic, game soundtracks and even if there happens to be a good pop song
Gaming: No
What can I compare to: Philips Fidelio X2HR, Superlux HD330, Steelseries Arctis Pro + Dac, RHA T20i
Source: A phone for now but I might get a DAP in the future. I can also test on a Marantz PM6006 + CD5005 + Technics SL-1900
Budget: I'd love to leave this open but I know there's no limit... So probably around the price of V-MODAs
I hope this isn't a TLDR type post and I'm counting on your help. Because you're an awesome community! (way to suck up
