I have the original Bifrost Multibit DAC. SCH-04 04015091, It doesn't start with an A or B so I believe it is first Gen. I have it hooked up to a streamer playing Hi Res files off of Qobuz and am happy with the sound but I'm wondering with technology advancements should I look into upgrading? Have chips improved significantly where I can spend $300 and get something significantly better? Thanks for any feedback.

No not obsolete. If you can mod the DAC with the newer OPA1656 and OPA 2156 op amps they will greatly improve the sound.

So to keep up.... the current configuration for my Bifrost OG dac is I/V & Buffer - OPA1656's/ DC offset - OPA2156.

The 1656 is a clear, fast open sounding op amp while the 2156 is warmer and more organic sounding. These are good in combination or you can use, for instance, all 1656's for IV& buffer and DC offset.

These are tough to solder unless you have experience. But there are a number of DIY people who could do the change for you if you do not have the necessary soldering skill..
