Hi Head-fi, First time poster.
So I am a vinyl junkie and love collecting/listening to records.
This Tuesday I had a party and by mistake I bended my Ortofon MC-1 Turbo needle. Thing is I bended it a little back and it still works good, no skipping or anything out of the ordinary, however as I am a bit paranoid if the needle would cause any wears or damages, I wanted to get a completely new cartridge, and maybe use the old Ortofon MC-1 for my old records.
My turntable is a vintage Pioneer PL-200 bought years ago, and it works perfectly sound wise, it does have a weird glitch of slowing down sometimes but it never caused any other ruckus.
This Wednesday I purchased a Numark CS-1 cartridge, after some trouble getting it to work (figuring it worked on MM too instead of the MC Option) and it sounds good. No skipping, it tracks good and sounds generally good.
The one thing it confuses me, it says that it is recommended to use the cartridge it at 3-6grams.
So far I had it set up at 3g, and sound and everything was pretty good.
Do you think that is a good Tracking Force set up, Especially for an old Pioneer PL-200 Turntable?
What would be your recommended tracking force?
Also Is it a good choice I made getting the Numark CS-1? (I had options for some Ortofon and Shure ones, but I liked the Numark because it was easy to install and the needles are changeable)
I am mostly worried about wearing off my records.
I kinda noticed that some records are not as loud with the Numark CS-1, as the Ortofon MC-1 would make them kinda louder, but still the sound quality of both cartridges are pretty good from what I noticed.
If it helps this is the system I have:
TT: Pioneer PL-200
Cartridge: Numark CS-1
Amp: Yamaha AX-870
Speakers: B&W CDM 1NT
CD Player: Harman/Kardon
Also what are your thoughts about this system?
Thanks and would love to hear your thoughts
