This is an index post to help niche threads (threads with few posters) keep going.
If you regularly visit or maintain a niche thread, consider:
  • Discover a niche thread linked below and make a post in it to keep it going.

That's a brilliant idea @Edric Li !

Looks like you were thinking outside of the box even further than I was.

I will put these on my watch list, and check regularly whether they have gotten "stuck". If a few of us do that, that may just work!

Some threads I won't have much meaningful to contribute other than some random comment to keep them going, but on the Music ones I certainly can.

@PoSR77, ECM rings a bell; I don't think I have many ECM albums in my collection, but I guess there are one or two. I wasn't even aware of your thread, but I'll start looking through my collection.

I too find @PoSR77's ECM thread helpful. I am a casual ECM listener at best, and browsing through this thread I've already discovered some new gem!

Two things:

- Thanks for the support for my little ECM thread! I'm glad it has helped others discover more music in that interesting niche.

- While this way to subvert this nonsensical policy is a good idea, and I applaud the intention and effort, I fear the mods will crack down on "empty/low-content" posts in these threads soon. That is against forum rules after all, even if they don't really enforce it. I think our only real hope here is if the mods come to their senses.

Your thread reminded me that I have some ECM albums (not many), which I haven't listened to in a while. Time to give them a spin again!

We can cross that bridge when (if!) we get to it.

If we can believe the admin's/moderators' earlier comments that they don't have the time to check all posts and usually rely on post being reported to them for contravening the rules, then this solution will probably pass without problems. And we still don't know what the rationale for the ban on double posting was in the first place, so this workaround may well be acceptable to the admins.

Besides, who is to judge what constitutes a low content post? Many posts on Head-Fi only contain a single embedded media link without any accompanying comments, and that seems to be OK.

What I haven't dared to point out to the admins (I don't want to sound like a trouble maker), is that the double posting thingy was only ever mentioned in the posting guidelines section. There is a difference between guidelines and rules. Rules are there to be followed, whereas guidelines are just that; guidelines to help people make preferred decisions where some discretion on the part of admins and moderators is allowed. I did read those guidelines before I started posting, and when I found out that the double posting guideline was not actually being enforced (until recently), I always assumed that meant some discretion was indeed being given to postings where double posting makes sense.

I don't think any of us used the ability to double post as a means of spamming the forum(s). And I have always amended my posts rather than double-post where that was a sensible thing to do. But I have double-posted where completely new material was added that required its own post for indexing and for the purpose of searching within the thread.

Yea, I think maybe they are too busy to worry about manual enforcement too much. But this thread will point them right to the threads/posts with guideline/rule violations. We'll see.

It is a risk, but if they really wanted to remove every single thread that had historic violations, then indeed nearly every thread in the Head-Fi forum would need to be removed. They will likely apply some common sense here.

This sudden rule enforcement is extremely frustrating. I am trying to maintain a DIY thread and contribute to this forum, spark discussion, and share my ideas and schematics, but it is impossible now. I don't have a ton of viewers and my thread is not highly active (at least not yet?) and I was last able to post over 2 weeks ago.

I want to contribute to this community, but this ridiculous rule change makes that impossible. Preference is given entirely to the popular DIY threads, others are already dying out and not being updated.

If this does not change I'll be forced to move my content to another website.

We all appreciate your problem; we are in the same boat!

However, this is not the thread to voice your frustration in the hope the admins will notice; I don't think they monitor this thread

Vent your frustration in the Unable to reply when quoting in a thread I've quoted in before thread; that was being monitored by the admins at some point at least...
