I was just thinking about buying this MD.. as my starter unit into the world of MD.

I was just wondering how would one go about to record on this unit?

I have mainly CDs and 320k/192k lame vbr's (both of which I play on my computer), and a slimX portable.

How would I record using the DR7?

Do I have to buy a cable and directly record it, then name the track on the MD recorder itself?

Is there a way to send the filenames, etc? It doesn't seem to come with software. Also, would it be better to record out of my computer or my slimX (350)?

Thanks in advance, and ignore the newbieness to MD :P

I may be wrong, because I'm just getting into MD myself, but I don't believe the DR7 is what you want for recording MP3s. I think you need a NET capable unit.
I record CDs to the DR7, better known as Dr. Seven, using an optical cable from CD to MD.
It recognizes the tracks and the breaks.......but not the titles.
I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge will chime in soon........somebody?

You could also post over at MinidiscT.com. They have a nice forum with a lot of knowledgable people.
Hope this helps.

Net MD allows you to transfer your mp3's to MD in faster than real-time with USB. If I was into mp3->MD transfers, that would be the ticket. As joelongwood says, an optical cable will give you beautiful digtial recordings if your source has a line-out.

Go over to the T-Board to get more info. Keep your wallet tightly-gripped.........

Heh.. mp3s aren't too important I guess :P

Probably be doing CD->MD transfers.

Sound quality is my main concern (well.. after my wallet :P)

And according to many sources.. the Doc delivers.. right?

By the way, thanks for your responses =]

The Doc does deliver - it has had nothing but rave reviews.
However, there is a middle ground - the Sharp IM-MT880. Great sound, but also does NetMD. But the Doc still have the sound edge...
