Hi All. Not sure if this has been posted yet, but just a heads up that the new B&W 600 series, Series 4, has been released (or at least info about it has been released). You can check it out on their website here.

Thanks for the heads up.

I love B&W speakers, they have a way of making excellent sound at every price point!

Not too crazy about the asymmetrical plate for the tweeter.

These seem like they are promising otherwise. More classy looking. They look like they are going to incorporate a lot of the improvements that the well reviewed CM series is offering (the improved tweeter, FST midrange driver) at a lower price.

Not sure if anyone noticed this... but what makes this a major step up is that BW is actually using trickle-down technology from their top of the line speakers, the 80x series minus the 805, and brought the FST midrange driver to the masses!

The FST driver is shown on the 683... notice the extra large and surroundless yellow kevlar midrange woofer!

Oooh lalala!

^ Good point Joey. It would be interesting to audition the new 600's. I thought gen 3's were too harsh for the price point. Hopefully, they smoothed out the response.

Warpdriver mentioned the CM series which are definitely more refined. If the new 600's could take a small little step toward that, BW would have a killer entry rock n roll series.

Thanks Xen.
I had read of this new series in the hi-fi press.
I got a chance to listen to the 603 s3 floorstander recently and found it very nice for the price. To me they sounded a little more complete in bass presence compared to the KEF iQ7 that I compared them with.
Hopefully the pricing on the new series wont be too much diferent than the older model.

As a owner of the pair of B&W 601's S3's sitting on my desk...I will say I prefer the 601 look to the newer 685's.

Really? I never liked the cheap, grey, rounded plasticy look to the s3 600 series. These new ones look much classier to me. More like the oh so sexy CM series.

I'm very interested to see how they sound. I own a CM1 setup which I have been loving so far. The interesting thing is that the new 686 and the HTM62 look nearly identical in their specs (nearly the same physical dimensions, freq response specs, etc) to the CM1 and CMC. I doubt that B&W would let them sound exactly the same, because there would be almost no reason to pay more for the CMs except for cosmetics. (The CM's have real wood veneers, and heftier/better cabinets though). Also, the 600 series are Made in China, whereas the CM's are made in UK for those that think that matters.

The one thing that stopped me from buying B&W in the past was that they didn't sound "right" to me (I thought the treble was a bit too lively on their 700 series), but the B&W introduced a very musical and refined sound in their CM series (so much so that I prefer the CM over the more expensive 700). If the new S4 600 take a step to address this, they are going to be an excellent buy, especially due to the ability to get their top technical features evident on their more expensive speakers.

interesting. i like the new CM series, but i think the 600 and 700 series are both woefully overrated and overpriced; i don't find them pleasant at all. i'll be curious if this new revision follows in the CM footsteps.

I had 604 S2s but found them average - for some reason I decided they were for me by just reading the brochure

. I haven't heard anything past S2, but that midrange cone design looks a lot like some Nautilus ones I almost bought. I was hell-bent on buying them, but I found the treble way off the charts. Ended up buying Celestion A3s, which have a much warmer sound.
