Hello,

I'm using a Thinkpad as my source. External Maxtor USB 2.0 -> PC Card -> iTunes -> mAudio Transit via USB 2.0 -> Altec MX5021 speakers. And I'm getting major crackling even when the drivers are set at 2 in, 2 out, 16 bit, 8000 Hz to 48000 Hz with Vey Low Latency.

What can I do to fix this? The crackling did not start until a recent move. I realize this problem tends to be caused by errors, but is it static electricity a possibility?

Try increasing the latency.
