I'm currently using a VAIO FW laptop and although I love my headphones, I really want to setup a speaker system. After some research I decided on the M Audio AV30. I heard some great things about it and its sound quality is very close to the AV40. It's only $80 on Amazon, making it a whopping $70 cheaper than the AV40. I heard that connecting the speakers to a laptop headphone jack will produce bad quality. On top of that, my headphone jack is a bit... tilted. It'll break any jack I put into it over sometime.

Does anyone know a way I can bring out good quality from my speakers without using my headphone jack?

(Is this the right sub forum for this? I didn't know whether to put this in here or Cabled,Power,Tweak,Speakers)

I used to have an FW before getting the new F11. I bought a Creative HiFi external USB soundcard that had a SPDIF output. Which allowed me to output to my home theater system. Buying an external sound card is your best option. The one I bought was like $50 at Best Buy.

Sorry for delayed response! No the one I had was much bigger. It was an X-Fi (no hifi like I mistakenly mentioned before) model name though. It was $50.

I'll tell you what you should really do though. And this option is free! Go buy an Xbox 360 VGA display cable. It comes with a headphone to analog stereo adapter. Take the adapter out of the package and return the cable. I did it and they didn't even notice. I will work for you too!
