Hello, I am new to Head-fi. I came here because I heard there are a lot of audio experts here who can help me decide witch pair of headphones are best for me. I am hoping someone will lead me in the right direction to purchasing a new pair of headphones. Let me get started by explaining a little of what I expect from the headphones that you recommend to me.

I guess I should start with the genres of music I listen to. I listen to a lot of different music genres actually. Pop, R&B, Electronic/EDM, some Hip-hop, and a little Rock (Country music and classic music genres are pretty much non-existent in my music collection). If it helps to give a better recommendation, I'll list some of the artists I  listen to (not in any specific order)-

Pop-  Rihanna, Maroon 5, Adele, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Sia, Ariana Grande. (You probably get the point that I listen to a lot of mainstream pop artists).

R&B-  Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, John Legend. Some others also. Artists are sometimes both Pop and R&B, so  I'm not going to list very many.

Electronic/EDM-  David Guetta, Diplo, Zedd, Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Alesso.

Hip-Hop-  Drake, Macklemore, JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Eminem.

Rock- Very minimal. I listen to Maroon 5 a lot, they are a combination of Pop and Rock though.

Summary Of Music Genres- I don't listen to much music before the 2000's.

Moving On----
I will now explain the type of headphones I'm looking for.

You can probably tell that I want my Headphones to have a lot of bass in them. The most bass possible. The headphones should also sound good with vocals and other sounds besides bass too. Another thing I should say is the price range I am willing to spend for a new pair of headphones goes up to $200 USD. I don't really want to spend over 200 for a new pair of headphones. The type of headphones I want is definitely on-ear or around-ear style. No earbuds please.

If it matters, I listen to mostly 320 bit rate mp3's and 256 bit rate aac purchased from itunes. I am planning on getting some lossless quality versions of some of my favorite albums too.

Also I am going to clarify that I am not really an Audiophile. I don't really care about a flat headphone response. I want my headphones to be fun and bass heavy, but like I said before, Vocals are important too and need to have clarity also.

The device I am going to be playing the music from is the Fiio X1 lossless player. I have already purchased it thinking it looked like it should be a quality player and it was cheap enough for my budget. I am thinking of getting an ipod touch or ipod nano a little later this year. Let me know if I should keep the Fiio X1 or if an ipod would deliver quality music to the headphones.

I am looking for headphones with a more modern style and design. I am not a fan of headphones that look like clamps on peoples head or ancient torture devices. Nothing with wood design on them either. I really like the style Beats uses in their headphones. I have heard a lot of negative reviews about the sound quality of Beats though. Sony makes some really good looking headphones too.

I had some Beats solo 2's that I was happy with, but they broke after 2 months so I took them back. I have some extra money to upgrade from the solo 2's though. Right now I am listening to music from my Bose Soundtrue in ear buds that I paid $100 USD for a year or two ago. I am not very happy with them. They don't sound very good anymore, especially after I got my Beats Solo 2.

I have been listening to music for years, but just recently upgraded from music from the radio and cheap earbuds with a cheap mp3 player. Just in case you are wondering.

Well, that pretty much explains what I am looking for in a pair of headphones. Some headphones I have been researching-

I have heard a lot about Audio Technica ATH-M50x. I'm not sure how much bass they have. If you have listened to them before, please give me your opinion on them. I have seen them on the internet for $120 USD.

I heard Sony MDR1A sounds good and has nice bass. They are a little over 200 dollars, so I'm not sure if I can get them.

I have been really wanting Beats Mixr's for a while now. I don't know if they are better than the solo 2. I've never heard them before. Beats lovers seem to like them. Beats studio wireless might be an option if I get an ipod, but Fiio x1 isn't wireless. And beats studio are too expensive.

Those are just some I've been looking at.

What do you think? Please recommend some great headphones. I'm really stuck right now. Not sure witch ones to buy. I hope someone is willing to help. Ask questions if needed. Thanks in advance.

Onkyo ES-HF300 - not the most bass, but quite a decent amount while sounding really excellent - ok if you've got small ears.
Sennheiser Urbanite XL - a bit bassier and bigger than Onkyo, also huge price reduction on amazon.com right now. - ok for most ear sizes.

Thanks, GREQ ! The Sennheiser Urbanite XL look like a great option. Have you ever listen to them yourself? Would they be better than ATH-M50x in your opinion?

Yes I have. I never recommend anything I've never heard or owned. It's bad etiquette.
I wouldn't recommend food I've never tried, a car I've never driven or a video game I've never played - it just doesn't make any sense and this kind of behaviour is frowned upon in any online forum.

It has similar overall sound quality as the widely praised Sennheiser Momentum but it is bassier, which is what you're looking for. Very smooth sound and VERY comfortable headphone.
Never heard the M50x... but I think it's WAY better than the old M50 subjectively at least.

No idea exactly how big they are, but mine is also on the larger side, and I had no comfort issue with it when I tried it out. I didn't put it around my neck, but it's fairly large *shrug*.

Thanks! I really like the 100 dollar price tag for the Sennheiser Urbanite XL going on right now. I have heard of them before you had mentioned them, and they seem like great headphones. They have a pretty good rating from the editors on Cnet.com it looks like. I will probably end up getting them or the Audio Technica ATH-M50x's in the end. But I am going to sit around a while longer and see if anyone else has any opinions. The more opinions the better. Thanks again.  ;)

If you liked the solo2 you mght want to stay with them.  It sounds like they really met your needs. I really like mine for a portable phone and they got a great review at inner fidelity.  http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-ear-pad-sealed#ytbs1YjTP8Phj7Yi.97

I appreciate your suggestion! My Beats Solo 2 were breaking, so I returned them where I bought them. They offered to me a brand new pair or in-store credit. I declined the offer of a new pair and took in-store credit. I originally bought them for $100 USD, and that is how much they refunded me. The Beats Solo 2 would be $200 USD to purchase a new pair, since the price has gone up significantly since the Black Briday deals in November. I would definitely want to upgrade from the Solo 2 if I spent that much.

I returned my Solo 2 because they were breaking. I only paid 100 dollars for them during a sale. I was offered to get them replaced, but I took a refund of in-store credit. To purchase another pair of Solo 2's wouldn't be worth it because now they are 200 dollars. I'm looking for an upgrade.

I would avoid Ultrasone - almost all their headphones are like Marmite, you either love it, or hate it.
Very strange tonality and timbre in all their headphones due to the design philosophy they follow.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that they're the kind of headphones you should try before you buy because the risk of not liking them is higher, unless you don't mind shipping them back for a refund.
