I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet running Windows 10, and am looking at upgrading to a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. I use the tablet and a Kindle Fire HD for playing Amazon Cloud and Prime music, so this limits my source options. I also listen to various podcasts, youtube, and vimeo. Currently, I am using the headphone jack to RCA inputs on my receiver. It works, but I have to turn the volume *way* up on the receiver to get a decent volume (about -15 to -20 higher than FM radio). I figure this is due to low voltage output from the Windows tablet or Kindle.

One option I am considering is the Schiit Fulla. This would allow me to get external USB DAC quality and use the Windows tablet at home and route the headphone output to my receiver RCA inputs or my Lenovo laptop at work with full-size headphones. It won't work with the Kindle, though, but is a "cheap" upgrade.

A second option would be to get a Schiit Magni 2 Uber and send the headphone out of all my devices (table, Kindle, and notebook) to the receiver at home or headphones at work. Twice the price of the Fulla, and not as portable. This would also give me the option of adding the Schiit Modi 2 Uber or Multibit for the home receiver for even more investment, but again, I lose the portability, and the Kindle loses out, again.

Any recommendations? I keep getting the bug to do something to improve my sound situation, but haven't done anything about it. Time to get moving.

Schiit tech support says I need a better source than tablets and notebooks, but I don't see an easy way to get around the Amazon music requirements.

Thank you,

The Schiit stack will be more then you will ever need. Priced average with the two combined plus the cable in between them is just over 200 dollars total. The DAC will give you clean sound, and then the amp will give your headphones the power they desire. Can't go wrong, good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I don't doubt the MM stack will do the job. Just wondering if it is overkill, or too inconvenient for use in two locations.
