I don't listen to lots of FM but there are times (cleaning out the music room, etc.) when I just wanna put on NPR jazz or a classic rock station or whatever and not have to fool w/ decisions, disc changes, record cleaning , etc..
Right now I'm using the tuner section of an NAD receiver that's not in use for anything else. I'm thinking about putting that receiver into use for a bedroom tv/patio system and am looking for a real bargain in tuners.
Prefer dedicated tuner, digital w/ presets, easy programming, remote, clean sound (no static) and under $200. Used is fine. Feel free to pm me if you have one to offer.
Thx,
CPW

I recommend the Sony SE-ST370. I owned two other tuners (a NAD C420 and a late-80s Denon) before settling on this one. Excellent sound quality, warm without being rolled off on top, not brittle, great stereo separation. No capacitors in the signal path. It doesn't come with a remote but any universal remote with Sony codes can control it.

That sounds about right. Are they still in production? If so, what's a reasonable price to pay for one new? used?
Thx for the reco,

Keep 'em coming.

Oops, got the model number wrong there. It's "ST-SE370" not "SE-ST370".

Strangely, on Sony's website, www.sonystyle.com, you can't find it by searching for that model number. You have to search for "STS-E370".

It does seem like it might have gone out of production in the US. They don't have any replacement tuners, except in the expensive ES line. When you do a search you mostly get European sites selling it now. I bought mine new about ten months ago. Retail price was about $160. I'd imagine $100-$115 would be a fair price used.

Edit: Here's a US site still selling it, though the seller looks pretty cheesy:

I would recommend a used Arcam Alpha 8 if you can find one. I have had one for a number of years and it has been wonderful. It immediately replaced a Cambridge Audio unit that was garbage out of the box. The dealer allowed me to trade up to the Arcam and offered me a discount for the hassle. You may also want to see if you can find a used Creek, but I believe they will probably run more than $200.
