NC Meet 6/24/06

I have a big ole wobbley noggin' and I have to pull the SA5K cups down to the last or next to last stop on the head band risers. Will have to try tilting the head band back. Those were my cans. After everything I read about them, I was pleasantly surprised when I got them and plugged them in. I like the sound. I haven't found what kind of music I like best on them like I have with Ms2i's (metal), K501's (vintage jazz) but most everything sound good to me on them thru my Woo 3. They got loud and funky with the MPX3 and Rob Zombie. Could be the ultimate Zombie listening setup. Cheers!

Yes. The stock Electro Harmonix tubes are utter crap IMO. They sound muddy and lack detail in comparison.

In my experience yes.

Yes but they only have about 70% of the gain that the 12AX7s have so that is a little bit to low for use with my K1000s.

Ahh!!

I can't Believe I missed this! I just joined headfi- last week! Oh well..

If anyone else is interested in a meet sometime in the Raliegh/Durham area, let me know!

And to Veniogenesis, I'm a sophmore at Duke. Glad to see I wont be the only (although recently converted) headfille here!

I got all the way down this thread, and when I reached the bottom I realised my mouth was still open in awe of those speakers.

Great photos and impressions of some brilliant gear there. Kudos.

Looks like you all had a good meet. No smiles in the pics (?????) though.
Can you post more impressions about the Original CD2800 MKII CDP? How does it compare to other players?

Yes those speakers are my Babies. 2 years of design and BS. Still tweaking. Maybe I should have a meeting just on them

The Original CD2800 MKII is an incredible player for the money. It is really tough to be at $840. I stll cant believe it has balanced outputs at this price point. I'm currently working on Mods to further improve it. We have now decided to sell these based on the review model I recieved. good stuff.

The price has since increased to $900. We sell them and are also almost complete with a mod version with several upgrade paths. Everyhting after the DAC is replaced. This player in stock for is tough to beat as it is. Amazing product for the price. A balanced cd player under $1000? Who would have thought it possible?

Thanks for the impressions! Did you guys get to test the single ended outputs as well? Are they a significant upgrade from the A8T? I don't suppose that price includes shipping huh?

There was a A8T at the National HeadFi meet with the A8T, but I only listened to the CD-2008MKII, so I cant comment. However the first CD-2008 was not balanced and still had a higher price tag than the A8T. So my guess is the dac/output boards were a higher quality version of the of the A8T. We may carry the A8T in the the future, but right now we are focusing on the CD-2008MKII and a modified version.
