Hi all,
I have a C521BEE CD player, which has recently been giving me grief when I try to play CDs. I'll put a CD in, and it'll try scanning it, only to claim 'no CD'. This happens with new CDs, old CDs, but all generally unscratched and in immaculate condition. After I've switched it off a couple of times and tried again, it'll work, but it's bugging me.

Is this a common problem with NAD CD players? Anything I can do, other than try to take it back?
Cheers
Nick

I've had mine for about 6 months, and it hasn't recieved the gentlest treatment (2U rackmount amps being stacked on it, being carried from meet to meet, having a Raptor scorch its cover, etc), but its still performing flawlessly.

Try using a cd lens cleaner, and if that fails, get it warranty-repaired.

I've had my NADs for about 7-8 months. However, living in the centre of a large city, it's quite possible that the CD player's got dust in it or somesuch, I guess.

Thanks for the advice - I'll try the lens cleaner and see how it goes.

Cheers

Someone recommended against it, but I've had good luck with 99% isopropy alcohol and a Q-tip on the laser lens, with my portable CD players. Don't think I'd risk it with a pricier player though. Maybe it's an idea, if all else fails.

Mine is a 540c model. It's 5 years old. NAD cd players are notorius for their bad error correction system.I had many problems with burnt cd's only to finally discover it was the Roxio software that was the problem.I use Nero and it works beautifully. My suggestion to you would be to send the unit back and get another since this is becoming a problem.Especially with any cd's you play.I know this is aggravating..sorry to hear this !

Wouldn't that be based on the transport used in the model?

It might be worth using a spirit level to check that it's sitting completely flat. Mine had a few problems when I accidentally had one of the feet on a bit crooked, giving it a bit of a tilt to the left.

Hi Nick,
This looks like a common problem with NAD cd players.
My first new NAD C542 had the same problem. Got a replacement from the dealer. This new one has worked flawlessly for 1.5 years now.

Regards,
Ashish
