My wife gave an early Xmas present in the form of a Panasonic SL-SX390. All I can say it's that the thing sounds just okay, nothing spectacular, but is far under the level of my Lenoxx CD-50. Maybe it's the permanently compressed sound, since the anti-skip is allways on, or the bad EQ settings, but the thing has a couple things that makes it okay.

First, all the functions are controled (well, all except pause) wuth the remote control, even EQ settings. Being fully digital, there's no chance that the volume will suddenly change if it moves and have your ears blasted. Also, it never, never seems to skip, and believe me, I try to do it just for kicks. It's also very small and ligth, so you can carry it everywhere to go. Good for the gym or jogging.

As for the bad, and I already mentioned sound quality, the headphones are junk, the player looks fragile and feminine (sorry, I am Mexican, supossed to be a macho guy), there's no line out (some marks in the chassis suggest that maybe it's used on models with optical and analog out, maybe the Japanese versions) and won't recharge batteries. Battery life, by the way, seems to be around 40 hours with alkalines, maybe 20 with rechargables, which I think is okay.

Another thing is the resume feature, also allways on. That means that if you stop playing a cd, when you play it again it will start at the beginning of the song you were listening to. That's okay if you don't want to listen to the cd from the beginning, otherwise you are going to have to click rewind a couple times. The remote has also that beeping sound some people don't like, but it can be turned off.

In conclusion, this thing has all the functions you'll ever need if you don't care a lot for sound quality. I'll be using mine in the car and the ocassional trip to the gym, but for most listening I'll use the Lenoxx, a machine that lacks all the features the Panasonic has, and has many limitations of its own, but sounds better.

Oh! And I really aprecciate the fact that my wife decided to give this player. It's a nice gesture and I like the player to certain level. Just don't tell my wife that I don't love it.
