Hi guys,

I have an old integrated amplifier that I have had for several months, but I cannot find ANY info on. It's labeled "MCS Series 3822 Integrated Amplifier".

Does anybody have it?
How's the sound?
What is the price?
What is its wattage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I do know about the integrated is that it is silver in color, rather cheesy looking, and it can power a set of speakers louder than I will ever use it. It does have a headphone jack that is excessively noisy, has bloated bass and it is very strong, (I can't use it past the 9 o'clock position with most music).

edit: Damn! I forgot to mention that it is a solid state design.

That there amp is a "Modular Component System" piece from JC Pennys. I've heard that they were made for JCP by RCA or Technics but who really knows?

I have an integrated 3865 (?) + matching tuner that I bought new with allowance money in 1979-ish. It's not too bad. It's black, has analog power meters, a little flip down door for "Aux 2" inputs (I never used them till I got a CD player in '85), Bass, Treble, Balance, a semi-decent Alps detented pot...

If your's is anything like mine it uses Sanyo amplifier chips (STK0039 in mine). One of mine died and I can't find another one..

The headphone "section" of mine is a pair of resistors between the amp chip's output and the headphone jack.

I used to listen to my Koss 4AAA's with a 10' coiled cord out of this amp back in the day... oh yeah.

One of these days I'll fix her up again.

ok,

Cool, mine says "Modular Component System" on the back too, except mine is functioning perfectly with absolutely no problems. Heh heh heh. It also has bass, treble, and balance controls. There also is a "loudness" button which boosts the bass up a bit.

Edit: Also, quite strangely for such an old device, there are absolutely no cosmetic blemishes on the unit itself. Strange, eh?

MCS was the jc penney store brand...early versions are made in japan by NEC and then also rebadged Technics/Panasonic gear...you can find many models of turntables, cassette decks, amps etc..that are exactly the same but badged MCS or Technics etc.. Some MCS are amazing pieces made by NEC and highly sought after: i own the 3822 amp/3722 tuner combo and they are one of the "good ones"...it is very under-rated 30 watts per channel and seriously competes with any Sansui amp of that same era.
congrats! i belong to a facebook group that is dedicate to MCS gear...just look it up and join!
