I saw steve jobs keynote, where he brought up the device..sounds really cool. Release date is 1st half of 2005. Battery life and bluetooth are the big questions for me. I'm interested to know what you guys/girls think.
I buy phones for may a reason, but playing music is not on the list. I don't want my phone tangled up with all those line-out cables, amps and headphones.
It would be neat if Apple and Moto came up with a co-op device though, Moto technology & production, Apple hardware & OS design. Motorola clearly could use some help on that end - look at the Razr V3: Great shell, terrible OS. Most contenders fail even on the great shell these days, mobile monstrosities populate people's pockets. The OS designers also have a new maxime: let's make it flashy and shiny, no matter how incapable the processor is to handle the load. I remember days when cellphone interfaces were *fast*. You could also smack somebody down with the phone and it would still work. These days you have to pay extra for an "outdoor" model if you want that kind of functionality.
So maybe it is time for Apple to go kick some ends in that industry.
the last thing i would want in a cell phone is OSX, panther or not. hell i dont even like my friends semi-smart phone with the windows OS it usues, i use a cell phone to make calls, and get calls, and it stores phone numbers, i dont need a PDA as a phone, but if, if i did, the trio seems be to on top of the game.

I always wonder whether there are really people not fed up enough with Windows to even allow it to infest their phones
Clearly OS X is not fit to be scaled down to a phone, but does an iPod run OS X? No.

Probably they would
Still the first thing I thought when I saw the iPod mini was: This would make a neat phone. Actually I dial out a lot using the scroll-wheel on our B&O cordless phone (you can say what you want about B&O audio but they do make very nice telephones), it's most efficient for choosing from the internal adressbook. I would not want to enter SMS via a scrollwheel though, although with a little T9 aid... The whole thing could be solved via a multi purpose input area though. Imagine a touch sensitive area that has all the text buttons on it, and a small hardware button next to it that toggles between text and scrollwheel mode.
I saw a guy on the bus yesterday who had a Nokia phone but had actually set the *background* to be the Windows XP logo...sigh. If he doesn't work for Microsoft, he deserves a beating. Hell, even if he does.
And I'm not sure about a combined device, but I *would* like to see music players with bluetooth support, so I could have the damn things pause automatically when my phone rings, and maybe share headphones. That's all possible with Bluetooth already, and would be super nice.
great, exactly what I need - not being able to make a phone call because my cell phone has a virus. I want a phone to make calls. I don't want it to have a shtty camera, I don't need it to be pretty rainbow colors, and I don't want it to have 10 million buttons to control all the unnecessary features and weigh 18lbs.
And in 10 yrs, when everyone has one device that functions as a computer, cell phone, camera, mp3 player, toaster, and hair dryer, I'll be carrying around my zack morris cell phone and 5 ounce mp3 player and I'll be happy...but im rambling...what were we talking about again...?

Just look at this link http://msmvps.com/donna/archive/2005/01/27/33907.aspx
virus in car's computers.
The more things get mixed with widestream operating systems, easier for virus to infect them.
In spain we say that if you put all the eggs in one basket if the basket fall all eggs get scrambled. (Or something like that, -my english is very bad-).

Wow, that's about as different from mine as possible!
My phone has a 1.2 megapixel camera, a second (lower res) camera above the screen for video calls, mini-SD card slot, a fingerprint scanner, Felica technology (wireless debit/credit) and a high res (QVGA) display ...
Motorola is going to manufacture the phone, not apple. The phone will have itunes software, storage, and controls..I'm not sure how its going to work yet. My mistake calling it a motorola ipod phone..Its a motorola mobile media phone with itunes, here's the link: http://www.motorola.com/content/0,,2645,00.html theres a video too, but it doesn't show much. Sounds like a badass phone you got Mavis..Who makes it?
