I have recently started listening to trance. A couple of weeks ago I bought Armin van Buuren's ``A state of trance'' 2004, 2006, and 2007. I really love these albums! At the same time, I bought Paul Van Dyk's ``Global.'' I found that I preferred the former three albums to Global.

Can you recommend some other albums that I may like. Thanks!

If you really like those albums I would check out this one as well Universal Religion 2008 (Live from Armada at Ibiza), its from Armin.

Some other artist you might like as well, Arnej, Markus Schulz.

Right now of my favorite cds is The Fields - From here we go sublime. The beats are so different but in a good way. Check em out.

To be honest, anything by Armin Van Buuren is perhaps a poor introduction to the style. The man has a habit of spinning some of the lowest common denominator trance available, and his own productions aren't any better.

Are there any tracks off of those mixes that are highlights for you? If so, post them so I can get a better idea of what you're looking for.

Very commercial and surely not deep, but yes, they will work as a chillout soundtrack for most people.
As for similar to AVB recommendations, you may probably just check his radioshow A State of Trance tracklists and some artists that appear in it. I personally don't like Armin's selection of tunes that much and what he is doing with the trance scene, but you can't go wrong with Arnej (8 Wonders), DJ Shah (Sunlounger) or David West. You may dig other Armin's mix-cds like the "Universal Religion" series, but what I would really recommend to you is to check his classic "Boundries of Imagination" comp. It's a bit different in styles (you may think, that it's outdated"), though, but a great mix-cd nevertheless.

P.van Dyk "In Between" is really nice. Also check Mike Koglin VS various artist mix, great stuff. From ATB I like " Addicted to Music". Also MarcoV is one to try, maybe...

I don't like to buy uplifting trance albums (although i got some) because except for the uplifting melodic and punchy trance tunes that i like, they also shove some other progressive and chill that i really don't like.
I got to the conclusion that searching for seperated tracks is my best bet in this genre,so here is a few excelent ones, some older than others that you may like.  but again..this is pure 100%
uplifting trance tracks.   I downloaded them all from "juno downloads" site in wave files.
just so you know, this list of tracks is a fruit of very hard work and a lot of listening and searching for a period of few years.

chicane - saltwater (!)
solid sessions - janeiro (armin van buuren remix)
above&beyond - home (above&beyond club mix)
above&beyond - alone tonight
above&beyond  - tri state (robert nickson mix)
airbone angel - origo
akesson - perfect blue
andy blueman - time to rest (original)
eddie sender - afterbirth
mike emery - vapour trails
fred baker presents iguana - beautiful sunshine (stoneface & terminal remix)
giuseppe otaviani - linkin people (original)
kamil polner - heart of sun
kamil polner - ocean waterfall
kuffdam & plant - summer dream (stoneface & terminal remix)
masters & nickson - out there (daniel kandy bangin' mix)
robert nickson - spiral
oceania - always (mike shiver remix)
rapha - pandora (daniel kandy's emotional mix)
eddie sender feat. marcie - please forgive (original mix)
the doppler effect - beauty hides in the deep (john o'callaghan remix)
w&w - mustang
airbase - escape
rank1 - airwave
mr. pit feat vicky fee - back for more

there are many more ofcourse, but this is just a taste.absolutely the best melodies existed in this genre!  tell me what you think of those.

I like the "armada trance" series as it represents this genre the most...although even there you will find mixed genres. I really like armin but i didn't like the latest "a state of trance" compilations (8 9 and 10).  they are nice, but not more.

WOW I really loved the Aaron Static 2009 Remix of Airwave, thanks for sharing.

I delved more into the songs stated above by plonter, great choices indeed :)

I'd suggest going to www.junodownload.com and www.beatport.com, these are 2 great websites on lots of house/electronic/trance music
