Hello everyone!

Just a half an hour ago i popped into my local radioshack to get a new mini to rca cable to use with my ipod--->harman kardona receiver--->speakers. It's the version that's marketed towards the ipod, thus iCable. The first thing i did was steal my brothers ipod to try them out, and at the point i was ecstatic! I was blasting geto boys and the grey album, and it was utterly ridiculous, but then after i cooled down a little bit I was gonna try some more laid back stuff, like Seu Jorge's Cru album (acoustic stuff) and this album wasn't on my brothers ipod so i resorted to my old sony clunker. model: D-E307CK and running the cable out of the line out, i powered up the cd player and all i hear is utter crap. Static and distortion all around. Same thing went for the headphone out, i was getting magor static out of my right speaker.

All i'd like to know is whether it's the cable creating this distortion, or whether my old sony is broke. Or for someone reasong this cable will only work with modern players (I don't understand why this would make any sense). It'd be good to mention that the cable works fine with my Iriver slimx, and that headphones are fine out of the sony.

~Thanks for any help!

The Sony's broken. Given the cable and headphones work in two other completely different setups, this is the only conclusion that makes any sense at all.

On the other hand, you do still have a cable related problem. You bought a Monster cable at retail.

could be the cd players jack, the line out jack probably doesnt fit too well with the connector, try wriggling it around in the jack, if it clears up then its the cd player.

how do those 100$ monster cables compare to 20$ diy starquads anyway?

$100 for a mini to rca?

I picked up this $20 monster cable over the radioshack cable because it looked nicer, not because i expected better quality. I believe it's the cable creating this problem though, because after a few days of using it it keeps shorting out on the right speaker. I'll switch to the radio, and the speakers are fine, but when i switch over the my player again the speaker will be letting off some static, or not even working at all. You'd think they'd put just a little more effort into their product with such a premium...
