monitor audio bronze 2 + t-amp?

Hello,

Can the monitor bronze 2 [1] speakers be used with the t-amp? They appear to be efficient >90db, which is fine for my use but I am a bit concerned about the impedance of 6ohms, which I was told could result in distorded sound? In what conditions can the sound be distorded? When the volume is set to the maximum?

I am planning to use them with the squeezebox2. Any positive feeback on these speakers? They are perfect for my budget!

As far as I know, the two best speakers in that price range are the ones you mentioned and the Tannoy Fusion 2s I have

. The Tannoys have a sensitivity of 88dB and a nominal impedance of 8ohms... unfortunately, nominal impedance doesn't really tell you the whole story, there might be major impedance changes at different frequencies... Or so I've understood it

The Fusions have been quite sensitive enough for me, but I listen at really really really low volumes and I do have more juice than a t-amp has.

I've brought the sonic t-amp to a hifi dealer and tested the B&W dm601 S3 (88db) and...sorry for my wallet

It's the manufacturer's quote so I do not know. Tuuning the sonic t-amp volume knob to half-way is just above what I can tolerate but my bedroom is not really big.

I am delighted with the setup but I should mention that I had only rare experiences with high-end audio systems.

i find that how much power from the source can affect how loud the tamp can go before clipping. i probably got 5decibals higher going from my sound card to my sacd player.

That's strange because the stock T-Amp actually sounds best with 6ohm drivers. The caps and resistors they used on the inputs and outputs make 6ohms ideal. I beleive some Sonic Impact papers confirmed this. Maybe they did it as a compromise between 4ohm and 8ohm drivers, who knows. A fairly common mod is to replace the output terminal caps based on the impedance of the drivers you're going to be using. But if you got those speakers, you wouldn't have to do anything at all. Except maybe mod the power supply cap and mod the inputs for improved sound quality (the stock amps rolls off pretty quick after 40Hz).

I went for the B&W dm601 S3 after an audition(88DB, 8 ohms) and I have no regrets! Unfortunately, I couldn't audition the monitor audio.

Modding the output cap is easy, but it doesn't do much so don't worry. Modding the inputs is where it's at if you ever feel like upgrading the T-Amp's sound.
