I haven't read too many good things about the FM transmitters for DAP. Has anybody had any good experiences with an FM transmitter, specifically when using it for listening on a car radio.

I'm currently looking at the The Belkin® TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter, if i keep my expectations low enough will i keep from being disappointed?

Does anyone have any experience with using the FM transmitters. The amazon reviews tend to run very hot or cold, either people really like it and it works well, or people find them terrible.

I'm using an AudiaX 2 FM transmitter for various uses; streaming internet content to an FM radio 30 feet away downstairs. Using it out of town in a rental car, and once in a while using it in a car that doesn't have an IPOD direct connection.

By far the best use and best quality has come from transmitting the signal in the house. The AudiaX is known for its ability to transmit farther than any other FM transmitter. Finding a free station on the dial isn't as easy especially when travelling from town to town, so its a hit and miss depending on where you live and how much travelling you do. Fortunately, the Belkin has the 4 presets which make it a breeze in switching to an unused frequency.

It's a great device for what you need it to do, and it works fine in a temporary situation when you don't have a direct connection, but I wouldn't have it as my only permanent choice in the car. Nothing replaces a wired connection as far as sound quality, but FM transmitters still can be useful as a temporary solution plus you can come up with all sorts of ways to use it for other things.

I recieved a Belkin Tunecast as a gift a few days ago. I don't know the differences between mine and the tunecast 2, but i would say that mine does get the job done, though certainly not well. While it sounds pretty good when it is very near the antenna, it gets a lot of static as it gets farther away. I can use mine comfortably at a distance of about 7 or 8 feet with minimal obstructions. Also, i find it is important to make sure the volume of the source is fairly high, this improves clarity and range. One thing you may worry about is whether your car's antenna is in the front or back. mine is in the back, and it definately affects the quality.
