Hello, everyone. Do you guys think if it's a waste to have G08 in the headphone system? Since G08 is a hi-end product, I am not sure if there any headphone setup can maximize its performance and potential. I am going to use Raptor to drive my SDGS-1000 (but it is still in process at Grado's workshop). I have a pair of Cardas Golden Reference RCA and a pair of Nordost Red Dawn RCA. Since I have an opportunity to own an used G08, I dont want to miss it but I dont want to waste it in my current system either. I wonder if anyone can tell me how many percentage of G08's potential can be revealed in my current setup? is it worth to have one just for headphone? Please feel free to comments. Thank you advance for all your advice and comments!!

In my system the G08 is the weakest link of the chain. IMHO no source is to good for any system since everything starts at the source. Even a great transducer is limited by a lackluster source but not the other way around.

I am sure using a good source is very important to a system; but i am worry about my AMP or headphone aren't good enough to reveal G08's potential. That's my major concern.

The G08's output will not be wasted with the Raptor and SD GS-1000's, particularly with the excellent IC's you have. The Raptor/GS-1000 are fully capable of revealing what the G08 will send them.

I think you will find the limiting factor has now become the CD recording process itself, and the abilities (or lack thereof) of the recording engineer(s).

imho, you have a well balanced system there, and should haave no fear that the G08 will overpower or be underserved by the Raptor and GS-1000's.

Enjoy!

I agree that the source is the limiting factor, but to me that source limitation is often the recording, as pointed out.
With a really clean recording you can tell the difference between a good DAC / CDP and a mediocre one, and with really poor recordings, even the good front ends can sound only mediocre.

With your proposed gear and system, you should be able to hear that it will really come down to the recording itself, especially with the mastering

Just out of interest, what made you choose the Meridian G08? There are quite a few choices in the roughly the same performance/price range from Naim, Ayre, Esoteric, Cary Audio, Musical Fidelity, Classe, etc...

Just have an opportunity to try it for two weeks and bought it from TTVJ as a pre-owned CDP. I havent planned to have a high-end CDP that soon...but just had this chance and dont want to miss it.
Do you guys think it's necessary use a better IC in my current setup?

I have been played Cardas Golden Reference RCA and a pair of my dad's DIY cable for entire afternoon. I can barely found little improvement between CGR and the DIY cable. Is it really worth for $900/per meter? or It's hard to justify the difference in my UE10pr since SDGS-1000 isn't on my hand yet?
